Question: I want to apply for Data Analyst Jobs that requires Statistics and SAS. How do I get the training needed for SAS Jobs?

Answers: SAS Training costs ranges from $2595 (USD) for SAS Base Programming to $3270 (USD) for Advanced Programming.

In addition to the SAS Global Certification Training Exam, you also have to get your hands on a SAS Software. SAS Software comes as cheap as $1000 for the SAS Learning Edition Software or a yearly license of $7000 for a one (1) user Full Enterprise License.

So you may estimate that a combined SAS Training + SAS Learning Software will cost you between $7000 to $14000.

If you do not want to invest between $7,000 to $14,000 for SAS Training.
So what can you do about the cost of SAS Training?
1.) Broaden your Job Search:
You are really a statistician and a data analyst and you don\'t need to hitch your career to any specific statistical vendor when the cost of that vendors training is prohibitive.
Open up your mind and broaden your job search. Many statistical or data analysis jobs would take a sound understanding of statistics or data analysis and handson experience with statistical stools (and not just SAS tools.). With cost of training in mind, I would recommend that you focus on jobs that as for SQL or Excel Data Analysis skills.
Also keep in mind that you can apply for any data analysis job regardless of the software listed and sell yourself at the interview on the basis of your statistical or data analysis skills.
What I am recommending is that you should be solution minded and not vendor minded. Employers change their vendor alliances all the time and even employers balk at the cost of expensive per user software licensing costs.
2.) Teach Yourself SAS Software:
You also have the option of buying SAS Learning / Limited Edition Software which is about $1000, buying SAS books and learning SAS by yourself at home.
The other option that you have is to forgo buying SAS Learning Edition Software and focus on just buying textbooks that explain to you how SAS works.
With the knowledge you glean from these textbooks, you can still apply for any job and when SAS expertise comes up, tell the hiring managers that you have sound data analysis / statistical skills and you have been studying about SAS. Tell them what you\'ve learnt so far and express strong interest in learning more about SAS on the job.
If you have a good personality and you come out as knowledgeable, you will get hired. Keep in mind that the costs of hiring professional SAS programmers is high and that some employers would be interested in hiring someone who is not so expensive and training the person on the job.
So, in summary here are my recommendations:
1.) Become Solution Minded and not Vendor Minded :- Focus on selling your knowledge of data analysis at the job interview and explain to hiring managers that you can learn any specialized software packages on the job.
2.) Broaden Your Job Search: Don\'t fixate on SAS because it is not the only data analysis software package in the market.
Learn how to use other job search terms that would trigger the profiles of other employers interested in hiring statisticians / data analysts. It may be that by widening your job search using phrases like: \"excel data analyst\", \"SQL Data Analyst\", \"Data Analyst\", instead of just \"SAS Analyst\", you will reach more of the type of employers who hire non-SAS Data Analysts every day.
3.) Teach Yourself SAS:
If are determined to be a SAS Programmer or Analyst to the exclusion of any other solution, look into buying SAS textbooks at Amazon.com and based on the customer reviews and/or price, buy the books that are highly recommended and teach youurself SAS.
There are also techniques that will help you learn SAS effectively by yourself ... but that will be the topic of another post :-)
